You want to watch The Daily Show, not be ON The Daily Show
One of our favorite shows, The Daily Show with John Stewart, will be broadcasting tonight on our infamous "I'm too sexy for my pom-poms" bill. Unfortunately, we deserve it.
This stupid bill will not leave the Senate because they have better things to work on and don't need to be made a fool of on national television. Senate Education Chair Florence Shapiro said "'It is not appropriate for the state to regulate cheerleading.' [...] And it will die as soon as it arrives in the Senate said former high school cheerleader Sen. Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo)."
So it would make sense just to leave it alone and let it die?
Apparently Mike Villarreal (D-San Antonio) doesn't think so. He agreed to be interviewed by the FAKE NEWS (i.e. comedy show) correspondent. Anyone who watches the show knows that is a horrible idea.
THEY ARE A COMEDY SHOW! THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE FUN OF YOU!
Maybe the Representative didn't know but maybe someone should have told him (ahem, staffers, protect your boss).
I watched the preview last night and it made me cringe and then laugh an uncomfortable laugh. The preview goes like this:
[End of show preview] John Stewart: ... Plus Bob Wiltfong investigates overly sexy high school cheerleading in Texas
Bob Wiltfong: Sexy cheerleading is a growing problem.
Rep. Villarreal: I have attended a number of high school events and haven't seen any problems with the performances.
Bob Wiltfong: Maybe you are not old enough to be interested in girls yet?
Rep. Villarreal: I'm... I've be happily married...
[Interrupting] Bob Wiltfong: There comes a time where your body will go through some changes. All those feelings you are experiencing down there will start to make sense.
Oh man, this what happens when you take your eye of the ball. I still blame Al Edwards, who reportedly also gave an interview to the The Daily Show.
"Texas, it's like no other country." You are absolutely freaking right.
UPDATE: The Daily Show will cover Texas cheerleading next week.

Boy was this bill a stupid idea, but what does it say about us political junkies who are wasting so much time talking about it?
