UPDATE: Strayhorn's May 1st push (?)

I received a copy of Strayhorn's pitch to get her name on the November 2006 ballot from a friend. The letter was sent to his business that is a incorporated but he has never voted or given to a Republican. She is apparently getting her list from the Secretary of State offices because it was address to him but with his busniess name and address.

Here is a copy of the letter that was sent (Strayhorn.pdf).

There letter also included a petition form which states that deadline to receive the signatures is May 1st. Kinky says they will take theirs up to May 5. The Secretary of State deadline is May 11.

I don't know why there is a discrepancy on the dates and I really don't care. The real question is if you want Chris Bell to win, do you help (racist?) Kinky and Strayhorn on the ballot? Remember, you only need a plurality to win if there is more two candidates.

I can't sign any petition because I voted in my primary but I can technically get signatures from both of them. They need 45,540 signatures each.

Anyone have thoughts on it? You can email me too (anonymity assured).

UPDATE: Chris Bell has a link to FOX 7 - Austin's analysis of the matchup. Here is a chart for you impatient folks. Time to turn out the base.

Has BOR already started a slime campaign against Kinky? He's not even on the ballot yet. This looks like it could get nasty! I am a Kinky supporter. Democrats won't talk me out of voting for him, but they could convince me not to vote democratic further down the ballot.

Kinky Friedman is a racist. If it gets ugly, it's because he made it ugly.

Jobsanger: Take a look at the clip at BOR where he uses the word "negro" and the context it is used. I have serious concerns about that. He either uses it not caring it the implications or does not see the implications. I think it matters that our Governor does not play fast and loose with charged language. Since he is a writer, I going to assume he knows the effect of words on all people.

It's troublesome at best... at worst he has a backwards view of black people.

Kinky is AWFUL!

As Kinky told The Daily Sentinel, "As to funding the education system, Friedman's answer is to put all the money in the education system and let the corporate sector bid on funding athletics." What exactly does Kinky think the corporations will be getting from our children in exchange for their high bids?

Kinky proposes to outsource our border security to five Mexican generals who we'd pay based on how successfully they kept immigrants from crossing the border into Texas. We ought not bring in even our own military to address immigration problems much less invite a foreign country to encamp an armed militia on our southern border.

Kinky supports school prayer and posting the Ten Commandments in Texas classrooms. Neither the government nor the government's school system are the best source for teaching our children what, if anything, they ought to know about prayer and the Ten Commandments. Does Kinky even know that the Jews, the Catholics, and the Protestants have different "Ten Commandments," and if so which version is he proposing we post in all Texas classrooms?

When asked about women's rights, Kinky says "I'm not pro-life, and I'm not pro-choice. I'm pro-football!" That's not funny to the many Texans who consider this a serious issue. Texas imposes some of the nation's harshest restrictions on women's reproductive rights, and this freedom of choice is the right of the people, and not the business of the government.

Kinky Friedman has voted just once in the last 12 years, and that was when he voted for Bush/Cheney in 2004. Kinky explained, "I was for Bush in 2004 ... he's a good man." Kinky has also run (unsuccessfully) for public office as a Republican in the past. How is he an "independent" candidate?

On a November 8, 2005, Kinky appeared on a nationally televised CNBC news program, where he was asked about his views on criminal punishment. Kinky replied, "Throw 'em in prison and throw away the key, and make 'em listen to a Negro talking to himself." When asked whether his use of the word "Negro" was racist, Kinky replied "no ... it's a charming word."

Kinky hasn't even gotten on the ballot yet, and he's already offered the top political appointment to make his biggest campaign contributor Secretary of State for Texas. This know-nothing campaign contributer should not even be considered for any political appointment, let alone a top appointment, when his only qualification is giving the Kinky campaign almost a million dollars.

I disagree with the Fox News' analysis.

As the last poll I saw had Strayhorn crushing Bell, I don't think Bell will garner 35% of the vote.

With the constant barage of negative advertising on Perry and Strayhorn, their name id will rise, but positives will fall.

I believe in the end, that if enough Dems. cross over, that Strayhorn can win.

I think Kinky takes away from Bell(the ultra far left) and Perry(the libertarian free earth types) but not any from Strayhorn.
